IALT: Reflect about our trip to Parakai springs

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog, today the Kia manawanui syndicate went to Parakai springs for our last trip as a class. When we arrived at Parakai springs we were informed about the rules. After talking about the rules, we had our session on the slide before other schools came.

At first I wasn't wanting to hop on the slides but as me and my friend Lydia saw other students come the slide and were talking about how fun it was we then wanted to ride aswell. So we grabbed a mat and tried the short slide first, we waited 10 seconds before having our turn, in my opinion I think that the short slide is faster and that the long slide is longer but slower than the short slide. I enjoyed the short ride the most because it was faster and was more enjoyable. Although it was fun sliding down I also thought that it was to hot inside aswell but overall I think that the two slides was AWESOME!!!

After having slide session we then left to the pool, while being in the pool the Kia manawanui syndicate had a push off fight in the pool, a push off fight is where someone is ontop of someone else shoulder and tries to push off another person who is doing the same thing.
If my explanation is not helping then here is a photo of what it looks like:

Image result for someone on someone's shoulders in the pool

During the day me and my friends went from the pool to the slide again and again. It then was time to get changed and to head back to school, during the drive back to school I could see and hear people taking selfies, playing LOUD music and singing along as well. It is so depressing to hear that Waiwera hot pools had been closed down but I still enjoyed our last trip with the year 8's before they leave next year to college.

🚘Reading - Driving Us Into The Future(Part 2)🚘

🚘Reading - Driving Us Into The Future(Part 2)🚘
IALT: Compare Electric cars/Fuel-powered cars.

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog, as I said in my last blog about reading we are reading about Electric cars and Fuel-powered cars. This week we were given a google drawing to complete, within this google drawing we had to compare Electric cars/Fuel-powered.
Here is the google drawing:

(Click HERE to get a better look)

We also were given a task and that task was to create a google presentation and on that presentation we had to write/type down the positives, negatives and interesting things about an Electric car/Fuel-powered car. This presentation that you're about to see was made by Edith and me, here is our presentation:

Did you know that cost for charging an electirc car is less than having to pay for petrol? I didn't until now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Questions:
Have you ever experienced having an electric car?
Have you ever seen an electric car before?

🚘Driving Us Into The Future🚘

IALT: Read and understand the text 'Driving us into the future'

Starting from today for reading we have moved on from the text Designed for good, we are now reading from the text 'Driving us into the future.' This text we are now reading is about Electric cars and Fuel-powered cars, Electric cars need to charge and when they are charging it can take 6-8 hours to be fully charged.

Image result for electric cars

Here are the PRO'S and the CON'S of an Electric car:

PRO'S
- Electric cars are cheaper to run, the cost of charging an electric car is much less than paying for petrol.

- Electric cars can be recharged by being plugged into a powere outlet at home or at a public charging station. Charging staions around New Zealand are begining to grow more and more.

- Electric cars can reach at the same speed as fuel-powered cars and are much quieter and smoother to ride in.

- No exhaust emissions means less air pollution and no greenhouse gases.

- Electric cars have fewer parts than fuel-powered cars and so they need less maintenance.

CON'S
- New electric cars cost more to buy than fuel-powered cars.

- You can refill your fuel-powered car within minutes but with electric cars when charging them it will take 6-8 hours to be fully charged.

- Most electric cars can't travel as far as fuel-powered cars before they need recharging.

- Electric cars batteries will recently need to be changed which is expensive.

While reading this text I learnt that Electric cars have the same battry as computers, I also learnt that the first successful electrc car was made in 1890 by William Morrison in the United States.

IALT: Blog about Technology

Hello and greetings to all veiwers, this week is probably the last week of Technology which is dissaponting but what's worst is that tomorrow the Kia manawanui syndicate will not be having Technology except for those who are in Mr. Grundy's class. I am so sad that we are going to miss out on Technology which might be our last session but I hope that we will do something very intersting while the others are at Technology.

I hope that this week was not our last week of Technology as I will miss having Technology every Thursday.

I am SUPER EXCITED!! It's hard to beileve that I haven't been to Parakai springs before in my ENTIRE LIFE!! So this will be my first time.

We were going to have our last trip at Waiwera hot pools, since it Waiwera hot pools has been closed since the begining of this year we decided to have our last trip at Parakai.
I am looking forward to this last trip together with the class and I hope that the weather will be good.

🌈😁Rainbow's End!!!😁🌈

IALT: reflect/blog about Rainbow's end

Kia ora viewers and welcome back to my blog, if you scroll down to my other blogs you will see that I blogged about the upcoming trip (Rainbow's end).  We'll today was the day were the chosen students were taken to Rainbow's end as a reward for their help throughout this whole year.

I was SOOO excited that this morning I woke up at 6:45am, me and my siblings arrived at the school around 8:22am and at 9:00am we all gathered in the hall. In the hall we talked about the expectations and got split into our groups. As we arrive at Rainbow's end me and my friends (Lydia, Edith, Grace, Stephney) start to discuss about what ride we want to hop on first. Ms. Ashley suggtested that we hop on the rides at the end and work our way up to the rides in the front such as Fearfall, Stratosphere, Family karts and more.

Our first ride we hopped on was the Invader (my 3rd favourite ride). I've already been on the invader many times but every time I hop on it, the ride scares me. I feel that the most scariest part of the Invader is when you make your way to the top near the edge. As we finished our first ride (Invader) we then moved onto the next which was the Rollercoaster, we skipped the Power Surge because it was closed. I enjoyed the Rollercoaster but I think that the ride could be longer than it is because to me I feel that the ride is too short and not long enough.

As we finished our second ride of the day we then moved onto the next ride, the Log Flume. From 1 to 10 I would rate the Log Flume a 7, I think 7 because I enjoyed the ride, I liked it very much but there were some dislikes about the ride aswell, meaning their are some parts of the ride were you get wet and their are parts were the ride becomes boring. Just as me and my friends finish riding the Log Flume the Power Surge is then opened. YAY!!
As we race to the Power Surge we see a llllooooonnnnngggg line, we still went and trust me when I say that it was worth it.

The Power Surge is my 2nd favourite ride, in the front of the line we see other students from our school also wanting to hop on the same ride. I was soo excited and was really wanting to hop on the Power Surge ever since I walked into Rainbow's end today. What I liked about the ride was that it spins you around and around and in many different ways. During the ride I like to let my legs and hands go, I feel that it's better to just let go while the ride is spining you. I think that you can enjoy the ride better when you do let go.

As always we have our morning/lunch but me and my friends decide not to eat because we wanted to ride the Stratosphere before eating, I think that hoping on the Stratoshpere before eating was a good idea because it's better to go on a ride on an empty stomach rather than to vomit during the ride. Finally the Stratosphere my favourite ride out of all (even though it is the scariest ride). Me and my friends joined Kensington and his group and we all went on the ride together. Once I hopped on the ride I suddenly wanted to get off, I was SOOO SCARED!! Last year when I came to the Rainbow's end trip I fainted while I was on the Extreme Stratosphere.

I then left with Stephney, Akanesi, Paula, Lopi and went to the Family karts. I've only been on the Family karts one time and so this was going to be my second time. I enjoyed it the first time I went on but I felt that it wasn't as fun as my first time riding on the Family karts. We all decided to ride on our own and luckly Paula and Lopi was tall engouh to ride on their own. After riding on the Family karts I then went back to the Power Surge and Invader. I never wanted to ride the Fearfall because it was just too scary, the scary thing about the Fearfall is the feeling when you're coming down. I remeber going on the Fearfall last year, as the ride went up I could see everything and everyone (well not everything and not everyone) and regretted hopping on the ride. Then suddenly the ride dropped.

I really enjoyed our Rainbow's end trip I was soo tired after having fun at Rainbow's end, although I got some rest during the ride back to school. I made MANY memories with my friends today and i'm glad that we had fun.

Inquiry - Inventions

IALA: The difference between Invention and Innovation.
IALT: Create an invention that will help others in the future.

Image result for invention png

Our Inquiry topic for this term is based around our Technological World.
In the past few weeks we have been researching about different types of Technologies that have been around for centuries, for example: phones, computers, T.V's and more.

Last week we were given a task, for this task we could either do individually or with a buddy. We had to come up with an idea for an invention, my buddy for this task is Lydia.

(This is my Lydia)

At first we came up with an invention called Shape - It Bracelet, it's a bracelet that can shape-shift into a rubber band, a key ring and so on.
We struggled to find out how we were going to create this invention so we tried to think of another idea, then Lydia my buddy comes up with an BRILLIANT invention. Her idea was to..... Create something that could be a Phone stand, a Jewelry holder and a Pencil holder aswell.

We are still working on the invention and still need time to plan how we are going to place everything. I enjoyed working on this task with my buddy and I think that next time we could at least try creating the invention first before moving on.

Throughout the past few weeks we were given a tasks to complete. We were shared a presentation and in that presentation we had to take three different screencastify's, one for Decimals, one for Fractions, and one for Division. With the same presentation we were given different problems that needed to be solved, for example:
Here are 3 different problems or questions:

I took different screemcastify for these three different problems, Here are the three screencastify's:
Decimal

Fraction

Division

IALT: Blog about an upcoming trip such as Rainbow's End

This term - (Term 3) we have upcoming trips that will be happening very soon. Next week Tuesday chosen students will be taken to Rainbow's end as a reward for their help this year, an example: their are many students that would offer their time to help out, their are students who help as a sports monitor, milk monitor, road patrol and there are student leaders aswell.
At the end of every year we have this trip to Rainbow's end.

This year I am one of those chosen students, we will been having our trip next week Tuesday. I am sooo excited as this will be my 2nd time going to Rainbow's end with my friends and classmates, I just hope that the weather will be good next week.
Here are some photos from last year's trip to Rainbow's end:

πŸ“šReading/Inquiry - Designed For GoodπŸ“š

IALT: Read and understand the text (Designed for good)

Hello and greetings, welcome back to my blog. This week for Reading/Inquiry we have been reading a text talking about an invention that has been innovated.
- Innovated or Innovation is a invention that has been upgraded or improved on, for example: a phone is an innovation so as a computer and a T.V.

The text we have been reading is called 'Designed for good' and it is about three designer's named Craig, Stu and Robbie. All three designers had been studing on industrial design and was inspired to create a new pests trap that will be self-setting and was powered by 'compressed gas'.

As you can see onto the left there is a picture of three animal species, there is the Kiore, Stoat and Possum. These animal species were brought to New Zealand for sport, for thier fur and some were stowaways.

In New Zealand we have around 30 million Possums and like any other pests Possums are dangerous and they cause damage to native trees. We then have the pacific rat or so called Kiore and Stoats.

We give more respect to our native animals and not to pests because our native animals are endangered and some pests but not all pests feed on our native animals and so therefore I think that our native animals should be respected.

Native bush is where our native animals live or in others words it is the home of our native animals. It is important that we look after our native bush because the native bush is the homes of our native animals and because most of our native animals are endangered we need to look and keep the native bush and native animals safe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Innovative designer -  My meaning of an innovative designer is someone who takes an invention and upgrades it or makes improvements to the invention.

Craig, Stu and Robbie innovated on the pest trap, the pest trap was already invented but they decided or figured that there trap should/could be self-setting and could be powered by compressed gas.

πŸ“’MathsπŸ“’

WALT: Write fractions and decimals as percentages and percentages as decimals.

This week for Maths we have been learning how to write fractions and decimals as percentages and percentages as decimals for example 25/50 = 50/100 because when you're dealing with percentages it is always out of a hundred so I multiplied 50 by 2 because 50 goes into 100 2 times and so whatever you do to the denominator you do to the numerator, so I multipied 25 by 2 and I I got the answer 50, so therefore my answer became 50/100 or 1/2 because 1/2 of 100 is 50. So 50/100 as a percentage is 50% and 50% as a decimal is 0.50.

During Maths I found it challenging to convert fractions into percentages, I thought it was confusing until Ms. komor gave me a better understanding of how to convert a fraction into a percentage. I've learnt that the meaning of 'Percent' means for every 100 or for each 100.

In The Moment... Hail Stones

WALT: Write about Hail Stones using figurative language

In The Moment... Hailstones

As ranginui the sky father starts to cry,
he crys hail stones that drop from the sky,
Followed by rain and thunder, I ask myself "Why, why?", I wonder.
Repeating again and again,

I see piles of water rushing down the drain.
Click, Clang, Clash and Splash,
All coming at once in a dash.
My day has been ruined because of this bad weather.

Questions:
Have you ever seen HailStones?
Did you know that HailStones is actually ice?

Thinking And Talking About Text Bias

IALT: Think and talk about text bias

Today during the middle block Ms. komor gave us a text that was about M&M's. The text was about Mrs Sweet Tooth's opinion about M&M's, her opinion was that she thinks that M&M's are the best sweet treats. She mentioned many facts too about M&M's for example, did you know that M&M's are heathly? Well I didn't, im not even sure if M&M's are healthy.

After reading the text and understanding it we then moved onto the next thing which was thinking and talking about text bias. We have been playing a game called 'Astria' which includes a part were you have to rate the text or information by it's source, factual and Bias.

Source:
My definition of source is a something or someone for example GOOGLE is a source.

Factual:
Factual in a way is like what you think is truthfull or true.

Bias:
My definition of Bias is the rating of a text.
Here is the presentation:
(This is not my work but was shared to the class, I am using this as an example)

Technology - Graphics

IALT: Post a blog about Technology

Today for Technology we had to find different textures to drawing onto our white blank paper. We basically drew a square and in that sqaure we drew different textures, I drew textures that went criss cross, dots, squiggles, scribbles and circles.

Not only did we draw different textures but we also coloured it with two different colours but are similiar in a way, for example: Blue in a way matches Purple and Red in a way matches Organge or Pink.

I enjoyed today's session and I think that next time I could do better by finding more and different textures aswell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Questions:
Have you ever done something similiar?
Can you guess how long this took?

πŸ†πŸAtheltics Reflection πŸπŸ†

WALT: blog a reflection about Atheltics

(Tripoli house chant)
Tripoli were number one!!
(Repeat)
Defeating your teams one by one!!
(Repeat)
We're gonna finish number one!!
(Repeat)
Go back home we've already won!!
(Repeat)

Friday the 16th of November was the day were all houses came together to compete in different activites/events. Every year T.P.S always has an event that happens in November on the second week, it's called Atheltics. Atheltics is were we have our different house groups come together and compete with each other.

Each student gets put into different houses and Triopli is my house group, our colour is blue and did you know that each house is named after a street/road around our area?
This event took place at T.P.S on the school field, before we started the event each house group had to shout their house chants while walking around the bike track, the Tripoli house group was the first to lead the rest around the bike track followed by Benghazi, Alamein and lastly Tobruk.

The first block we had the field events happening. There were different feild events such as: Shot put, Discuss, Long jump, High jump and Standing jump. Only the senior classes took part in these 5 field events.

Classes from room 6 to the Kia manawanui syndicate went to a field event, because the Kia manawanui syndicate is such a BIG CLASS we got split into two groups so I was put into group 2 and we had Discuss first. Here is a list of what class went to which field event:

Kia manawanui/Group 1 - High jump
Kia manawanui/Group 2 - Discuss
Room 8 - Shot put
Room 7 - Standing jump
Room 6 - Long jump

We had a chance at every field event and was very competitive. I think that I did well with Shot put, Standing jump and long jump but may need some practice with Discuss and High jump.
After having the field events we had morning tea, luckly we had an early morning tea so it was a bit longer than our ususal morning tea.

Later on after having our first break we got straight into the races, we all raced by age and not but year. Here is yet another list about who was racing in what race:

5 yr old girls - 50m run
5 yr old boys - 50m run

6 yr old girls - 50m run
6 yr old boys - 50m run

7 yr old girls - 50m run
7 yr old boys - 50m run

8 yr old girls - 75m run
8 yr old boys - 75m run

9 yr old girls - 75m run
9 yr old boys - 75m run

10 yr old girls - 75m run
10 yr old boys - 75m run

11 yr old girls - 100m run
11 yr old boys - 100m run

12 yr old girls - 100m run
12 yr old boys - 100m run

13 yr old girls - 100m run
13 yr old boys  - 100m run

I ran with the 12 yr old girls for the 100m race and places 2nd in my first race and placed 1st in my second race. After having our races we then moved into the 400m run which is basically around our bike track and straight to the finish line. I was soo tired from my races that I didn't have enough energy to run the 400m run, but I did anyways. Although I didn't come first I am still proud of Grace who placed 1st in the 400m run (GO TRIPOLI!!).

I become exhausted after the event and almost fainted, I am proud of my house group and I think that every house group did an amazing job!! Congrats to BENGHAZI who won this year.

Questions:

Do you have Atheltics day at your school? If so, then what did you place?
Would you prefer Long jump or Standing jump?
Would you prefer Discuss or Shot put?
What house group are you in? What is you house group's name?
What colour is your house group?
